The hallmark of a society of excess, fashion combines all the worst aspects of the creative spirit with all the worst aspects of capitalist society. Elitist, cliquish and fundamentally useless, it perverts art, shackles self expression and abhors functionality, most often producing artifacts that are as ugly and useless as they are expensive.

But what is 'art'? Is art 'art'? Is 'art' all in the eye of the beholder? That's what they say about beauty, after all...
I disagree. A well done piece of couture can be a scathing commentary on society in general, or even better, the buyer. Couture serves to mirror back elements of ones character, no less than costuming on a film. Art is supposed to make people ask questions, to talk about things & couture certainly does that.
